The city’s iconic player posters, which once illuminated its skyscrapers, are all gone. The country has resumed its pre-tournament appearance, as have the ticketing booths, Hayya Service Centres, and other tournament assistance points. Moreover, the eight World Cup competition arenas must be fulfilled now. Each stadium has a distinctive design, making them masterpieces of architecture. They have cutting-edge facilities to enhance the fan experience and leave lasting impressions on the games they host.

After the World Cup, there will be less demand for these arenas due to Qatar’s small size. What will become of the stadiums now that they have become worldwide icons? In 2010, the Supreme Committee set out to create a long-lasting legacy following the World Cup. As a result, each of the eight stadiums will be utilized in some way. The men’s soccer world championship ended with one of the most thrilling finals in its 92-year history. It was a night of heart-stopping drama, and then some, ultimately ending with Argentina as the world champions. For Qatar, a gas-rich gulf nation with big ambitions and little in the way of a soccer tradition, it was a star-studded coming-out party and one that marked its entrance on the world stage by showing off its political and sporting event prowess.

Qatar spent some $220 billion over 12 years getting ready to host the championships. It built seven of the most expensive stadiums for use during the event and spent an additional $6.5 billion on infrastructure improvements throughout Doha, Qatar’s capital city. The World Cup 2022 has completed in spectacular fashion and the world will be moving onto the next edition of the World Cup. However, this switchover does not happen silently and the effects of the World Cup 2022 is likely to be felt for several decades to come. This is due to the massive $ 222 billion spent by Qatar for the last 12 years in order to get the country in a position to host the World Cup. A significant some of the budget has gone into building World Cup stadiums. The country was able to create seven very advanced stadiums at a cost of $6.5 billion. Qatar is not a prominent country with football action and this has led to the feasibility of the stadiums now that the World Cup is over.

Due to the problem of empty stadiums cropping up after the likes of the South Africa World Cup, Qatar has tried to reduce the impact of the World Cup tournaments. Stadium 974 is one such when you which was created with sustainability in mind, as it was completely out of shipping containers. Now, the completion of the World Cup means that it will be torn down and put to other users. However, there is no immediate urgency considering that Qatar will be holding a string of major tournaments like the Asian Football Cup 2023, Asian Games 2030, and Olympic Games 2036 amongst others. After Iran and Wales got eliminated from the World Cup FIFA issued a public assurance, which mentioned that rainbow banners and objects showing support to Iranian protesters are now going to be allowed inside stadiums. The security staff of the stadiums coordinated by Qatari officials seized goods with inscriptions, like “Women. Life. Freedom” in rainbow colors and kept them from entering the stadiums.

Many European nations, including Wales, had lost their bid to wear multi-color armbands at the times of the matches in the first week of the tournament. A few fans protested that they are not being able to carry goods in rainbow colors which are the symbol of LGBTQ rights inside the stadiums of strict Islamic emirates.

The State of Qatar is scheduled to host the World Cup for Soccer in November 2022. The Qatari government adopted an array of domestic legislation in relation to the organization of this global sport event. In this two-part blog, I will discuss legal issues addressed by this domestic legislation. Those issues are:

Harry Kane goes into the 2022 World Cup as the holder of the Golden Boot, but who has recently won the individual crown? Provided he stays fit, Kane has every chance of defending his crown as England look to go one better than their Euro 2020 final defeat.

The footballing world was aware of James Rodriguez’s quality before Brazil hosted the 2014 World Cup, but that tournament took him to a whole new level. Rodriguez netted six goals, including the Goal of the Tournament, which he expertly volleyed home against Uruguay. Four players scored five goals at the 2010 tournament in South Africa, but Germany’s Thomas Muller scooped the crown on the basis of his three assists. (more…)

FIFA announced on Thursday that 2.45 million tickets have been sold for the World Cup in Qatar. A total of 520,532 tickets were sold during the last sales period running from July 5 to August 16, mainly group match tickets such as Cameroon vs Brazil, Brazil vs Serbia, Portugal vs Uruguay, Costa Rica vs Germany, and Australia vs Denmark.

According to FIFA, residents in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, England, Argentina, Brazil, Wales and Australia led the number of tickets bought during the last period. Another sales phase will begin at the end of September at a date still to be confirmed and run until the end of the tournament when tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Over-the-counter sales will also begin in Doha after the launch of the last-minute sales phase. (more…)

Qatar’s construction sector is growing rapidly and is nearing the end of a decade of building, as developing infrastructure directly and indirectly related to the FIFA World Cup 2022 has taken centre stage since 2011. The World Cup and other mega events lined up in the coming months will drive the economic growth in the country which will also benefit the construction sector, which is expected to expand in the coming years.

While certain segments of the sector will see less activity following the World Cup, building will continue in projects that support Qatar National Vision 2030, said a recent report by Oxford Business Group (OBG). Furthermore, amid Qatar’s ongoing diversification drive, the city of Lusail and the development of Qetaifan Island North will be large sources of construction activity over the medium term. (more…)
