Daniel James raves about Manchester United’s new signing

Wales international Daniel James has spoken positively about winter signing Bruno Fernandes and believes the midfielder will benefit Manchester United during the backend of the campaign. The Red Devils have endured another mixed season in the Premier League and they are currently six points adrift of the Champions League positions.

Speaking to MUTV, James said that Fernandes has adjusted quickly to the new surroundings and added that he was impressed with the Portuguese’s performance on debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers this month, he told: “He is settling in great. I know quite a few of the boys speak his language and he speaks great English as well. So I think as soon as he came in he put his stamp on the game and he showed what he is about in that last game, on his debut. He was great, with the balls he played in behind and, for me, if we can get that bond, especially playing it in behind, I think that will be great.”

Fernandes had five attempts on goal during the 0-0 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers but none of them threatened to find the back of the net. During the backend of that game, he was shifted into a defensive midfield role to compensate for Andreas Pereira’s struggles and that reduced his impact on the attacking point of view.

Nonetheless, there were plenty of positives from the 90-minute performance and he has the chance to produce a much better showing when the Red Devils face Chelsea on the road after the winter break. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have beaten Chelsea on two occasions in the Premier League and League Cup this term but they have a tougher test on their hands this time around with Marcus Rashford out injured. The England international was the main difference maker with a brace in each of those matches.
