This
week’s tough encounter between two hopeful promotion sides went head
to head, with the victor, going into the final phase of the campaign
in great confidence. Altona were looking at making amends to last
weeks draw with Sunbury, and made a few changes coming into this
week’s game. After thinking all week about the coaches plan to play
an attacking 4-3-3 formation, Charlie Egan made some last dip
changes and reverted back to his accustomed 4-4-2 line-up, with
Robert Kapiluca making only his second start for the season, and
James Dossis coming into the middle of the midfield. The game started in an anti-climax, as the visitors and home sided was loosely testing each other out. Werribee, enjoying more of the ball, did not create many dangerous moves, and it was Altona who made the attacks, but could not find someone to step up and take that final responsibility of putting it in the back of the net. Altona were dangerous on the set pieces, and Ivan hit the upright in the first half which was the closest any team got to find the onion bag in the first half. James was full of steam making Werribee work hard for their play, and had an opportunity late in the first half when he broke through but his one on one shot was saved by the keeper. 0-0 at half time, and no changes at the break, and neither team were looking at throwing caution against the wind, with both sides happy to sit back and absorb some non-threatening pressure. Altona hit the crossbar from another corner in the second half, and had a few half chances which came to nothing, as the game ended a stalemate. Gaffer |
