Comet back in Hunt.

The Comets had a great away win in the Vodaphone State League Division Two South after a disappointing result at home last week to bottom of the table Fitzroy City.

With Captain Dario Simunic and ball winner Troy Williams declaring themselves fit, Anthony Ciccarelli back from suspension the defence had a more settled look about it.

The Comets started of in great form and from a free-kick outside the box Fikret Korkaric gave Tony Sango in the Stonnington goal no chance as he put it up over the wall and into the net. This goal set the mood of the game and despite the pitch being a real paddock the Comets were buzzing about and the home team were at sixes and sevens and just ten minutes after his first goal of the day Korkaric made it two to take his tally to 19 so far for the season when he was at the far post to head in a great cross from Mario Diaco.

The second half was a tight tussle but the Stonnington team were not allowed to play as the Comets mid-field dominated the game. Murat Demirkol scored his first goal since signing a few weeks ago when he caught the Stonnington defence on the hop when he dispossessed Swingler and slotted it past Sango to put the game out of reach for the home team.

Coach Dale White was real upbeat after the game as he knew a win was important to keep in the hunt for the league but it was a convincing win that will send a message to the other contenders. Best on ground was hard for him to pick as Fikret Korkaric was in fine touch Steven Bellerini and Stefan Rudzki dominated the middle of the park and with Ben Watson and Adam Rudzki to come back in its all coming together for the run in.

The ressies had a great win over a much more fancied experienced Stonnington team who beat them earlier in the season. Brenton Szabatura was again instrumental with a fine performance and getting on the scoresheet again. Luke Presti scored the vital second goal which capped of a fine display by the ressies. Coach Herbie Castillo was pleased with the back to basics effort from his charges.

Next week the Comets are at home to top of the league Springvale White Eagles and a big crowd is expected as a win is a must for the Comets if they have any chance of getting top spot.
