Clayton went into this match winning three games on the trot. Playing home to Frankston Strikers, the side that gave Clayton their first defeat of the season. Clayton were looking to avenge their 1-0 defeat early on in the season and to continue their winning ways as we approach the business end of the season. Coach John Liakopoulos continues to silence early season critics who doubted Clayton’s existence let alone their ability to challenge for the title. With four senior players out and David Schulberg playing with an injury Clayton had to dig deep for victory in front of their home crowd. Clayton played well for the first half hour which saw John Dell’Aquila score his first goal of the season but soon after Clayton dropped off which saw Frankston equalize through Clayton errors. Half-time score Clayton 1-Frankston 1. As the second half came Clayton turned up the heat and dominated through midfield, created opportunities up front and kept it tight at the back. Once Clayton found their feet their was no looking back as they fired in two goals in quick succession. First substitute Fithi Alfa then Captain David Schulberg. Once Clayton hit the lead their was no doubt that they would be singing their song come the end of the day. A late penalty to Frankston made the score line respectful but there were no doubts of who were the better team. This Saturday Clayton plays at home again and entertains Waverley Wanderers in the top of the table match of the round clash. The first time these two teams met Waverley Wanderers ran away with it towards the end of the second half making it 4-1. Clayton’s home ground is Brandon Park reserve melway reference 71 C8. |
