Box Hill Inter cruised to a 4-0 victory against bottom-of-the-table Ballarat & District on Sunday.

The league newcomers have notched only a solitary point all season and were no match for second-placed Inter, though the result was an improvement on the 8-1 thrashing they’d received at Box Hill earlier in the season.

However, a reshuffled Inter line-up took a while to find their feet in their first outing to Ballarat.

Constant offside breaches and a lack of cohesion between the midfield and forwards made for a disjointed first half punctuated by a single Box Hill goal on 15 minutes.

Daniela Digiammarco, enjoying a rare midfield run, switched a perfectly weighted ball behind the Ballarat defence which Krystal McCluskey nudged past the advancing goalkeeper with her first touch and headed into the unguarded net with her second.

It was a rare highlight and one of the few clear chances of the first half despite the visitors dominating possession.

Box Hill played with more purpose after the break and it was only a matter of minutes before Ashlee McMillan had doubled their advantage.

McMillan won a contested ball against her direct opponent, swivelled, and fired a fierce left foot shot past the diving goalkeeper.

Digiammarco made it 3-0 midway through the half when she was quickest to react to a loose ball in the penalty area - her right foot strike giving the goalkeeper no chance.

And from Amanda Lawless’s late corner, Box Hill added their fourth.

Lauren Cramer provided a deft flick-on and Chiara Romano a crisp back-post finish to wrap up maximum points for the visitors.

Earlier, Box Hill reserves recorded a resounding 7-0 victory against the Ballarat & District seconds.

The league now takes a week’s break before Box Hill return to Wembley to host seventh placed Bendigo Vipers.
