Seniors move up to 4th position
Monday, 13 June 2005

The seniors recorded a solid 4-1 victory on Saturday against Keysborough. While the score could have been higher the 3 points were the main thing for the team.

After missing a few golden chances in the first five minutes SS had to wait until the 20th minute for the first goal when Robbie Nicovski side footed a low cross from Nick Gidas into the net. Minutes later a defensive mix up saw Southern conceed a penalty which was well converted to make it 1-1. Thankfully SS didn't have to wait long to regain the lead when Chas Di Petta playing his full game back for the club after a short stint at Cranbourne, clinically smashed home his one on one. Soon after club top scorer Nick Rossios expertly headed home into the top corner to make it 3-1 just before the break.

After half time South continued where they left off and in the 56th minute a well hit Nick Gidas volley at the back post made it 4-1. At the other end Peter Kourkoutzelos made two great saves to ensure Keysborough didn't get a lifeline. With 10 minutes to go South substitute George Babatsias smashed his powerful drive against the post and also had a goal disallowed for offside. Perry Kapetanas also headed just over from a corner. The score remained 4-1 and the win sees South sit in 4th place at the half way mark.

The Reserves won an amazing match 7-3 and the report will be posted on Tuesday.
