Round
15 of the Bayside Premier League concluded with neither Chelsea nor
Hampton Park United losing points. This keeps the immense pressure
on each other as the league season comes closer to completion to
what may be a grand final like encounter between these two in round
18.
Chelsea Young Boys (1st) traveled to Knox City (4th)
and caused the home team to lose their second consecutive match on
the trot. After last weeks stunning loss at home to Westernport, it
will have come to some relief to get all three points for Chelsea as
they maintain the slimmest of margins on top by one point.
Hampton Park United (2nd) had a goal spree at Cuscatlan
(9th) as they slaughtered the opposition by a whopping
eight goals. Whilst the win may not be a surprise, it was the amount
that Hampton Park was able to dispose the opposition by. Cuscatlan
had been turning in some decent performances of late and are still
in contention to avoid relegation. But this loss may dent the
ambitions and confidence to bridge the four point gap between them
and next highest placed Boronia Knights.
Croydon Ranges (3rd) once again had a perfect weekend,
this time against the out of form Rosebud (7th). The
result was a 3 – 1 victory but with the gap between Croydon Ranges
and second place Hampton Park still at five points, it is unlikely
that Croydon will finish the season with a top two position. Still,
it has been a magnificent second half of the season and this was
acknowledged when they where voted the most improved team on the
Bayside League website, against Westernport, Cuscatlan and
Endeavour.
Pines Condors (6th) return to the competition was
certainly a positive one for the club as they defeated Boronia
Knights (8th) to moved up two positions and secure their
place in the Bayside Premier League for 2006. Whilst Boronia are
four points above relegation, they may still need to get a win in
the final three matches of the season to secure their place.
Westernport (4th) has also turned their season around
with a brilliant second half season. Westernport made it three in a
row after an expected 4 – 0 win over bottom placed Endeavour Sports
(10th). The recent form of Westernport has been rewarded
with a dramatic improvement in league positions as they now hold
forth place. The loss also confirms Endeavour Sports as the first
relegated club, but may be looking forward to a more competitive
life in the first division.
Premier League Reserves: Just after Croydon Ranges had gained a four
point gap on top, they dropped the ball somewhat after a surprising
draw at home to Rosebud. Both Knox City and Boronia Knights made the
most of Croydon’s slip by both collecting wins and moved within
striking distance to only two points.
Division 1: Peninsula (1st) had a golden opportunity to
move clear out in front after they drew 0 - 0 away to Baxter (6th).
This result may have halted Peninsula sensational ten game winning
streak but the point gave them the edge over Cerberus (2nd),
who lost their second game of the season away to Langwarrin. A
delighted Langwarrin had a benefit of a powerful wind in the second
half and collected a goal in the closing stages of the match to win
1 - 0. Cerberus still has the advantage of a catch up match to
Montrose, but even a win there will still have Peninsula on top by
one point.
The biggest benefactor out of this though was third placed Brighton
Old Boys. Brighton made no mistake on the weekend and made it a
three way battle for two promotional places as they overpowered
Morningon Power (9th) 4 – 1. This win has them now equal
on points with Cerberus but the goal advantage is clearly in
Cerberus favour.
Division 2: Montrose Old Boys (1st) became the first team
in the league to be guarantee promotion after a solid 4 – 1 victory
away to Boronia Barons. But the league title is still up for grabs
as Peninsula (2nd) keeps within a three point distance
between them Montrose after been awarded a 3 – 0 walkover against
the Pines Condors Old Boys (10th). Peninsula also has a
game in hand against AC Miliagy (5th) and a slender one
goal average advantage.
