It
was another intriguing weekend of results that has dramatically
affected the race for the league championships in all four divisions
with only four rounds remaining.
At one stage many thought that Chelsea almost had both hands of the
trophy, yet that vision has been dampened as Hampton Park United
moved within one point of crushing Chelsea’s dream.
Chelsea Young Boys was at home to Westernport – a team that is
better than past results have shown – and it was Chelsea that was
hit by a major blow when they lost 0 -1. The win though has moved
Westernport into good seventh position and the first time that the
club has enjoyed back to back victories.
Hampton Park United scored three times in the second half to claim a
vital victory over Rosebud and in doing so move one point from top
place. Strong winds in the first half made it difficult for the
players to provide entertaining football, yet in the second half
Hampton Park made no mistake to clinch all three points. 3 – 0.

Croydon Ranges made sure their lost last weekend to Westernport was
a one off as they surprisingly crushed Knox City 4 – 0 at home. It
was a win that catapulted Croydon from fifth to third position and
forcing Knox City down one spot to forth.
Boronia Knights woeful run continued, but at least they salvaged a
point a home to Cuscatlan in a 1 – 1 draw. Boronia has not won since
the eighth round and are just in sixth position thanks to goal
difference.
Last weekend’s giant killers Endeavourer Sports was awarded a 3 – 0
walkover due to the Pines Condors suspension from the league. Their
second lot of 3 points in tow weeks still did not make too much
difference as they continue to languish in last place with only
seven points.
In the Premier Reserves Croydon Ranges are getting closer to
clinching the league title after inflicting Knox City’s first loss
in nine matches, halting a massive eight games winning streak. This
historic 3 - 2 result has given Corydon a four point lead on top.
Boronia Colts has another sniff of second place as they are now tied
on points with Knox City after they defeated Cuscatlan.
Peninsula moves to top place and with a three point margin in the
Division 1 with a 2 – 1 victory over follow heavyweight Cerberus.
Cerberus though has two aces up their sleeve as they still have a
game in hand over bottom placed Montrose and also a superior goal
difference. A win in that catch up match will have Cerberus back on
top.
Brighton Old Boys are at least keeping the top two honest with
another win – their seventh from their last nine – this time with a
3 – 0 away win over Frankston Outlaws.
Montrose and Mornington Power still occupied the bottom two
positions and need something special in the remaining rounds to
avoid the drop.
Top of the Division 2 and it was Montrose Old Boys that made a
critical slip after only managing a draw to inform Seaford United.
Whilst the draw still keeps Montrose on top it gave Peninsula B the
golden opportunity to close the gap after they enjoyed a 6 – 0
thumping over Montrose B. In fact, the goal difference between
Montrose Old Boys and Peninsula B is only one in favour of Peninsula
and more importantly Peninsula B has a game in hand. This should go
down to the final round.
