Now
this will be a massive match to get to next Monday when State League
1 leaders Kingston City host second place Richmond. Kingston City
has never reached the dizzy heights of the Vodafone Premier League
and as for Richmond it has been a very long time since they
participated in the highest division, and that was for a very brief
time. Both clubs have a gap over third place Altona East Phoenix but
a loss for Richmond and win for Altona East, North Coburg or
Langwarrin will give any, if not all those clubs a chance to bridge
the gap and apply maximum pressure for promotion.
As reported in the latest edition of Goal Weekly that has just been
released Michael Michalakopoulos has been sacked from Essendon
Royals, the eighth victim of the season in the VPL.
In the State League 3 South East Heatherton United slaughtered North
Caulfield last Sunday by no less than eight goals! This marks
Heatherton’s seventh victory in concession, yet with Clayton and
Waverley still going strong on the top Heatherton will need a bit of
luck to finally win promotion to State 2.
In the State League 2 South East Cranbourne Comets have been in
sensational form this season, that is until they tripped over and
landed on their face when a loss to then second last Diamond Valley
was followed up by a draw to bottom placed Fitzroy City. This gave
former Premier League club Springvale White Eagles a three point
advantage on top. Doncaster Rovers also should have taken advantage
of the situation but loss to Eastern Lions.
What’s going on in the Women’s division! No double figure scores!
Seaford United recorded the highest win last weekend over Mitcham
United to maintain their unbeaten run in the State League 2 South
East. Former Women’s Premier League team Port Melbourne had their
best weekend out this season by finally securing their first win
over La Trobe Uni in the State League 1. Still, unfortunately for
both teams they look certain for relegation. Incredibly both Keilor
Park and Ahsburton are scheduled to participate in two games this
weekend in the Vodafone Premier League after the two could not
compete last weekend.
To avoid relegation, which seemed like an impossible mission at the
beginning of the Women’s Premier League, but it is now almost a
reality for Uni of Melbourne, who joined the division at incredible
short noticed when Port Melbourne Sharks WFC pulled out. Yet, they
are now just two points away from avoiding relegation when they
disposed of Eastern Lions WFC.
Just as soon as the Football Federation Victoria had finishing
unpacking the boxes due to the shift to the Darebin International
Sports Centre they have decided to announce that they will shift
again in 2008 to the new purpose built rectangular stadium at
Olympic Park. Most likely by then most people involved in the recent
shift will no longer be at the FFV as they do have a enormous amount
of staff coming and going over the years!
