This
week’s
Vodafone
Premier
League
game
between
South
Melbourne
and
the
Melbourne
Knights
will
be
open
to
members
only.
After
extensive
consultation
with
police
and
South
Melbourne
FC,
it
was
decided
the
fixture
should
be
restricted
to
members
of
both
clubs
and
Football
Federation
Victoria
(FFV)
season
pass
holders.
FFV
Chief
Executive
Officer
Tony
Pignata
said,
whilst
it
was
regrettable
that
members
of
the
general
public
would
not
be
admitted,
all
football
fans
must
learn
from
previous
experience
that
crowd
disturbance
will
not
be
tolerated.
“There
have
been
several
well
publicised
events
involving
supporters
of
South
Melbourne
over
the
last
12
months
which
the
police
were
concerned
about.
“After
lengthy
consultation
with
the
police,
it
was
agreed
this
fixture
should
be
open
to
members
only,
to
avoid
any
potential
crowd
issues.
“If
this
game
passes
without
incident,
as
we
expect
it
would,
we
will
all
come
together
and
re-visit
our
plans
for
future
fixtures.
“The
club
and
the
Federation
regrets
members
of
the
general
public
will
not
be
able
to
see
the
game,
but
until
such
fixtures
pass
without
incident
at
South
Melbourne,
the
police
will
continue
to
act
with
caution
and
request
similar
measures
again,”
Mr
Pignata
said.
